help with window crank handles-pulling out what hair I have left

Just installed new package tray trying to put back seats back in can't get the window crank handles back on, I know the miserable little clip goes between plastic ring and handle, I am assuming the plastic ring is supposed tofit flush against handle if you are testing fitting it, so I know in theory how it is supposed to be done but can someone explain it in detail? 72 cutlass supreme

I'm not sure how your doing it, but I would first put the clip on the handle, pressed all the way in. Then put the plastic disc on the regulator post, then press the handle on the post. The cone shape nose of the regulator post will allow the clip to expand over the post then as you press it on it will snap into place when you have the handle pushed on far enough. John

The window crank shaft is tapered at the end. Put the clip on the handle place it on the shaft and give it a firm push.the taper will spread the clip and you will be good to go. Just make sure you have the crank positioned where you want it

The clip has to go in the from the side of the handle shaft with the projections to center it too.
The plastic disc just sits behind the crank to keep it from scuffing up the door panel.

it sometimes takes a good sharp smack with the palm of the hand to seat the handle on the shaft
