Needing a little advice. Trying to remove my dash and pad from a 1970 Cutlass. I think I only have 1 screw left and its the one behind the vent on the drivers side. Any advice on how to get this thing?
That one does not have a nut on it. There's a metal clip that the threaded stud presses into. I know just pulling on the pad sounds dicy, but unless someone messed with it there won't be a nut back there. I'm guessing there was no room to reach it during assembly. So they decided to use this clip on the threaded stud. I know I've got pictures of this somewhere....
Its been a few years since I pulled a 70-72 dash. But I believe you will need to be careful with the rectangle cloth hose attached to that vent it will come apart. Those are not reproduced so I'd be as careful as possible with it. Looking at a dash in the garage rafters I think it would be easier to remove with the vent still attached. Just be sure the hose is loose from the manifold down by the heater box. John
You're right it does make me a little nervous to just start pulling on it. But I'm replacing it anyway so I will give it a shot. Thanks for the advice.
Here's a pic of the plastic dash vent piece for the DRIVER side....70-72 Cutlass, etc dash.
This part is screwed on to the backside of the dash pad.
>It has TWO small raised "tabs" on the end that the hose goes on to....but....
>The rectangular cloth hose itself DOES NOT slip onto the plastic piece in the pic....instead, the rectangular cloth hose has a black plastic "adapter" stapled to the end of the hose. This adapter slips over the plastic piece in the pic and the small "tabs" on the piece slip into holes in the cloth hose plastic adapter.
