I have a question... I just had my '72 Cutlass Supreme partially restored. And I swear to God the front seats got switched. I used to be comfortable while driving, now the seat is very very uncomfortable!! But when I was in the passenger seat, low and behold, it felt like it should! Not to mention it seems like its also about 2 inches further away from the pedals now. Anyway... he says no he didnt, and theres NO way that could be done!

If these are buckets, the seat tracks on installed for left and right, so you should be able to tell.(look at the adjuster ****)

The 1966-72 GM bucket seat frames are the same RH/LH and can be swapped. That won't change how far back they slide, however. More likely is that the driver side seat had worn foam and sagging springs that provide more "legroom".

The adjuster **** is on the tracks, not the seat frame. You can swap the tracks from one seat frame to the other with four bolts.

When I switched from bench to buckets, I ended up sourcing two "passenger buckets" and to Joe's point, the frames are all the same, I just had to source a driver side track.
It would still be surprising he switched the tracks, unless he gutted the seats and frames all at the same time. Unless you are restoring these routinely, it is better to do one at a time.

We took out the seats to put new carpet down. IF he really didnt realise he accidentally switched them its only because when they we taken out the car was backed in (each seat was placed beside where it was taken out) ....once it was done, it was driven in..then maybe he put the seats back in, not paying attention (as usual) Like I said before..he HATES it if IM right.

The seat adjuster would be towards the console and not on the door side if they were switched. Its possible the seat may be getting jammed and not moving the full length of its travel.

Again, the adjuster is on the tracks, not the seat.

Typing in BOLD is considered yelling on a forum. Not a big deal though, it sounds like you have an issue that needs to be addressed. Are there wear marks on the seat where the seatbelts rested against them? Driver side seats will typically have extra wear on the door side bolster or seat material from getting in and out.

If the problem is just the comfort of the seat perhaps a compromise can be made for swapping the seats right to left if the passenger seat feels better.

Cutlass seats

Sorry for the texting in bold caps I'm not ' yelling' at anyone. Im just aggravated with everything that's gone wrong with my brother's car since this semi restoration. What wasn't broke now is! I went 3 years without it which was a little excessive, ever since I got it back something else has gone to ****..when it was fine. As far as the seatbelts.... theres no wear marks on the seats themselves cause my brother never wore them and neither do I.

Don't worry about that, we have other members here that do it too.

to clarify what others have already stated.... The seats themselves are not unique side to side, only the tracks are.
If you feel; that the passenger side seat is more comfortable, then just swap the tracks to the opposite seat and make that seat the (new) drivers seat and see if its more comfortable.

No idea if your husband might have done that(really no reason to pull tracks off unless you are restoring the seats), or if its just time not being behind the wheel playing tricks on you- but regardless its an easy swap to do.

Cool Seat adjustment

Hi Joe, on the seat track, can it be re bolted or a extension bracket of some sort to get more legroom? I'm 6'2' I need a couple inches to stretch...lol

Seat relocation brackets are available. I used these, from Year One.
