I have been unable to find a reproduction rocket emblem for the 67 to 69 Cutlass S AT console for sale. I am swapping out the top plate and need a more presentable
emblem. Any nice originals out there?
if not, I will clean up and repaint the original. Mine is grey, but may have faded. Was the inset gray or red, and any recommendations on correct paint pen or Testors model paint color?
I removed the rocket emblem from my '69 auto console and had the top plate refinished and rechromed. The center area on the forward and aft ends of the plastic slide for the shifter on the console plate supposed to be black - I painted mine a semi-flat black and it looks just like the plastic slide. As far as the emblem goes, mine was fine so I just re-installed it. If you can't find a correct emblem, you might need to get yours rechromed as well and then paint in the black areas of the emblem.
Thank you for the responses. I now know how to remove the existing emblem so I can transfer it to the new plate.
After cleaning up the existing emblem, I may get lucky and can possibly reuse it. If not, I will get back to Patton regarding measurements to see if there is a poosible alternative replacement part.
The door panel rocket on a '69 appears to be slightly smaller than the console rocket. The width seems to be about the same but the door panel rocket is shorter in length than the console rocket. I don't know if the attachment points are different or not. I'm guessing it's possible to use a door panel emblem on the console if push came to shove but it would be nicer to have an original. Fusick has a reproduction door panel rocket (I've got an old catalog and I believe the part number I have - SE69DP - is also dated) but I don't think the console rocket is reproduced.
I have decided to just clean up and reuse my original rocket emblem. Here are some pics and measurements of my 1969 console emblem for future reference.
