I recently purchased a 1972 98 2-door with 60,000 miles. The interior is incredibly solid and unbelievably comfortable. Loving the 6-way power bench seat. Want to clean the 'cloth' inserts where people sit in the car, and side panels too. Not sure what is best to remove the dirt/stains but not adversely affect the material or cushion. Wife suggested Oxyclean but isn't sure if it may be too estringent.

Smart wife. Oxyclean would be my first choice. You might try a carpet cleaner, as well. I've had good results with both. You'll need to scrub & vacuum several times. One thing I'll suggest, don't be afraid to get it good and wet with water while scrubbing. Water will eventually evaporate and water helps to move the solvent into the fabric for vacuuming out the stain.

 

Hot Dog!!! Planning to pluck the seats out, put em' on a make shift table outside, get em' "good and wet while scrubbing" as you said and then let em air dry on a nice warm day. Thank you!

 

If neither Oxyclean nor a Carpet Cleaner work, I suppose the tried & true upholstery cleaner "Steamer" would be your next best bet.

EDIT: In case you don't know what I'm referring to, it's a hand-held steam cleaner. Sorta, kinda, looks like a vacuum end nozzle but it sends out billowing amounts of extremely hot steam.

 

You can rent a RugDoctor hand-held steam cleaner at many grocery outlets, perhaps at a big box store.

Take the car to a detailer that has an extractor for upholstery.
