Which carpet is closest to OEM for 72 cutlass
I want to replace the carpet in my 1972 pacecar I see black is a no brainer for color match but what company is the best and looks original. I read its the 80/20 and I see its two piece. How about the sound deadner package was that also installed when new? Please reply with the best brand I see alot of ACC thanks

Welcome to C.O. Love to see some pics of your HO. Curious, is it one of the 220 sun roof cars?
Just about all the repro 80/20 loop carpets are good nowadays. Only thing the vast majority DON'T come with is the headlight dimmer grommet. So don't throw that out with the old carpet.
Just choose the supplier that's closest and offers the best shipping. These carpets are pre formed and need to be 'steamed' to relax the backing from shipping. Most also come with the jute backing (that you call sound deadener). Sound deadening is also another feature that is put under the carpet/jute, between the rear seat and trunk, and under the firewall padding.
Where are you located? That would assist in recommending more local suppliers

I am in NJ and this car is hardtop no sunroof. It is a genuine hurst but the vinyl roof is long gone and from what I read here it is not easy to get original top material. I have 8 track no computer security system (atleast the keyhole in fender) I will post some pics

I used ACC carpet that was ordered from Legendary.
It seemed very close to the original and had the jute stuck to the bottom. I installed a lot of dynamat stuff, so I had to shim some areas with more jute for just the right fit.
Overall, I was very happy with it. Oh - dimmer grommet was included!
Mine set out on the kitchen floor for 5 months, so the wrinkles went away on their own.

Not sure what you mean. The original HO's were decals too and that pic (assume it was camera flash) looks correct to me. Stencils and Stripes makes these kits. Maybe give them an email and ask.

If you look on ebay you will see decal kits that are about three hundred and there is one for seven ninety five. The correct decal kit has fading on the hood and trunk and sides and the cheaper is one steady color. I actually like the cheaper one but it bothers me that it isnt the original design. I will post pics of both so you see the difference. The photo from higher above next to the house is an example of the correct stripe on the trunk

On the 2 pics (I'm guessing yours is the second) I also noticed the decal on fender is not lined up properly at the top of the 'Pace Car" decal.
But the first one is likely a clone - note the improperly positioned HO emblems and the OLDSMOBILE script on the trunk? I wouldn't base my decision on a car that has obvious flaws like that.
Now the fading issue? I'm not sold on that. You know that these decals (I believe they were made by 3M) will fade over time? In order NOT to fade they have to be sealed over with a clear or seam seal that takes the originality away from it. I'd be more inclined to reposition your fender decal and call it good. You have a very striking car there even without the vinyl roof (which is missing on the car in photo 1 too)

I just went to Stencils and Stripes. The fade out kit you're talking about is
I'd call them or email and ask for details if you're serious about replacing the decals. They should also have a guideline on placement. I think that info is also in the 72 Assembly Manual somewhere. I know I've seen it somewhere
