72 manual bucket height to power bucket height range question
A couple questions for the collective knowledge.
1. 72 manual bucket set height; where does it compare on the power bucket height range? Intuitively, one would believe it to be right at 50% of the power bucket range, but assuming is dumb.
2. Were I to convert a manual bucket car to a power driver bucket, what mods does that entail to the seat and to the car? I believe the power tracks will bolt in place of the manual tracks on the seat, and I believe they bolt to the floor, but I understand another bracket is needed for the motor, so that would be at least some tack welding.
Motive: I have a 72 formal roof line Chevy (Monte Carlo) with power bench. I get "three fingers" from skull to headliner. I have a 72 formal roof Olds (Cutlass Supreme) with a manual bucket. I get "two fingers" from skull to headliner, and those measurements are sitting like you're driving. Bolt upright and you headbutt the roof. I think there are additional variables like bucket to bench "sitting height" and condition of the foam (the cloth Chevy seat IS original, we bought the car new) and the Olds seat is probably original. 85k on the Chevy, 56k on the Olds.
I don't think I can be sure I'd pick up enough room to justify the welding by going power bucket. All I want is headroom and my money next Friday, manual seat function don't confront me, to misquote George T, I'd set it and forget it. Thanks.
The seat to track mounting is the same. The track to floor is the same at the front. The power track mounts to a separate welded bracket at the left rear (bracket is forward of the manual mount). The right rear mount has a hole in the floor plate forward of the manual mount. Could drill a hole and install bolt or tack weld in a stud at the hole in the plate. The motor and transmission is part of the power track assembly.

Reason: Mas detail.
Koda, here's some pictures of the power unit next to manual sliders. I used a power drill to lower it down as far as it would go. I didn't think to run it as far back as it would go. The height on the rear looks really close to the same. Since Yellowstatue shared the front are the same height it looks to me like it wouldn't change things for you. Let me know if I can photo any other angles to help you in your decision. John
