Hi.
I have read Larry's excellent post on removing the dash from 66-67 Cutlass. My question is has anybody tried or can you just install the dash pad only without removing the instrument cluster or unit as a whole.

No you can not.

Thanks for the words on my post. Some of the fasteners that hold the pad in also hold the instrument panel in. Then getting to the others that hold the pad to the instrument panel are near impossible to get to with it in.

I'm old and can't bend in the middle too much any more.
I found it a lot easier and a much more comfortable with the front seats removed

 

Thanks to all. Luckily the seats are out for new floors. The dash pad was cracked and spilt many times over. I have had a replacement just been putting it off because it doesn't look fun but with Larry's thread and the OCM I am sure I will get it tackled.

location is Cincinnati in the process I have pretty much only have the 2 washers to remove on the headlight and wiper. I still need to unhook wiring. I do have 2 questions.
1) Do I need to drop the steering column to remove and put back on?

2) I have the factory rally pac so I know the speedometer cable needs to be removed and I know on the standard gauge you disconnect the pin connection. I have not looked at the rally pac connection yet it is also a pin connection?

No, it's a totally different circuit board. It is plastic and has the rectangular spring contacts on the two long sides of the hole and a "plug". As opposed to the laminated masonite type thing with the round plug on the seven or so metal pins of the standard one.

U21 Rocket Rallye Pac was a late, very complicated marvel that was basically a custom mod to a standard dash. I believe they blew the back hole out by hand.

You will need to drop the steering column, I believe, but it is not hard. MIND the automatic shift indicator cable if your car is as such.

 

No steering column removal is needed. or even dropping it. You need to be a contortionist for some of it. But, if the seats are out, it really is not that bad.

If you were close I would come do it for you.
