1965 Olds Steering Wheel Hub - Aftermarket Steering Wheel

All,

I understand that it is quite difficult and expensive to find/purchase an NOS steering wheel for the older cars. On my 71 I have an aftermarket Grant Steering wheel and it was quite easy to find information relating to the mounting hub specs, etc. I am however, not able to find much information on the steering hub for a 65 Cutlass. Looking to install an aftermarket GM Comfort Grip Steering wheel or perhaps some other aftermarket steering wheel. Does anybody have the specs on the mounting hub? Is it similar to the 71 Cutlass?

Help is much appreciated.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for. If you want a hub for an aftermarket wheel, they are readily available. I got a Grant hub to mount a Superior three spoke wooden wheel on the original column in my 62 F-85 with no problem. If you are looking for a hub to mount one of the GM sport wheels with three or four spokes, you need a repro GM hub to match. If you are using a three spoke wheel where the third spoke overlaps the first two on the backside of the wheel center, use a hub from a 67-68 GM sport wheel. Camaros used these, so all the Camaro repro houses have them. If you are using a four spoke wheel where the backside of the center is flat, use the hub for a 65-66 Impala two spoke sport wheel. This has the correct diameter for the 65 column and doesn't have the notch for that overlapped third spoke. Again, all the Impala repro vendors sell them.

Hi Joe,

I apologize for not being as clear with my question. I am looking at this product:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Comfort-Gri...rd!13210!US!-1

What would I need to fit this wheel or similar GM Comfort Grip Wheel to mount into the 65? In this listing a mount/hub is provided -will that bolt up to the steering column in the 65?

I guess my question was what is the bolt pattern/design on the 65 steering column? Once i know, I can look for the steering wheel or appropriate hub to mount onto same.

It looks to me like it will fit just fine. Just needs Oldsmobile on the center piece

The interior is black so its either the Comfort Grip Style or the Grant 976 which is a 14.5" Black Wheel. Inclined to go with comfort grip as the Grant wheel is painted black wood. But Will need to figure out a way to replace the Bowtie with an Olds logo.

The Ebay seller for that comfort grip wheel I posted above responded and claims that it will not work. Only 67 and newer. Thoughts?

The horn contact ring is exactly the same one used on the four spoke wheel. Just get one of these repro horn buttons.

Can anyone confirm whether this one will work? the Previous seller's product doesnt have the stainless steel ring around the steering (which I like and this one has):
