1973 Hurst/Olds Radiator ID and Replacement Options
Hello again,
The 73 Hurst Olds has a pretty bad coolant leak that I'm confident is coming from somewhere on the bottom of the radiator. No signs of it coming from any of the hose connections. It only leaks when running
First I'm trying to determine if the radiator there is stock or not. I've attached some photos, I'm thinking it's not because there are a couple stickers and an extra outlet (what is this? I put a red square over it in the photo) that makes it seem not. There's definitely no original tag
Second I'm determining what to buy as replacement. I want a simple drop in with no modifications required, with a stock look. How many rows would I need? My guess is 3 row though I haven't found any solid info on this, I'm also not able to look down the existing radiator right now since it's still full of coolant.
The first one does not look like my radiator, the cap is not angled and the transmission ports are in the wrong spot. The second link looks spot on. I've also included a picture of a radiator in some 1973 cutlass literature I have showing the angled cap
Let me know if you guys think the second link is a safe bet, or maybe there are better options out there
^^^This! The rubber cap on the heater hose port indicates this is a generic replacement. Chevy applications use that port. Oldsmobiles did not come with it from the factory, but the replacement suppliers sell a lot more Chevy radiators than Oldsmobile so they only stock the more popular version. One part number fits both with the addition of that rubber cap.
