My homemade 69 H/O air cleaner

As some of you may know I've been looking for one of these for a long time, but to source one out is nearly impossible. If you do find one it's thousands to purchase, and if I had a real H/O it would be different I'd pay. The other thing is I have a Holley carb, and high rise intake on the engine so it wouldn't fit anyway unless I go stock which I'm not doing. So I thought maybe I can make one for show purposes even though it is functional. I will never try to pass my car off as a real H/O, but for those of you that have one you are truly fortunate.

I started with the air cleaner and purchased the flapper door, actuator, foam, and the fiberglass top for an AMC. I then used speaker rings that are used for subwoofer and speaker enclosures. I used three 3/4"H x 3/16" W and one -3/4"H x 1/2"W for the top to fit the flapper assembly, all have a 16" OD. I used Birch instead of MDF, and then glued them together. I also have a 1/8" acrylic ring for the top to fill in the space the top sits on. I didn't cut out the sides, and I'm using a high flow filter and top on the inside. I have an extra ring not glued because the height may be off, but again it's mainly for show. I painted everything black, and I think it came out pretty good. Dino, thanks again for the pics and dimensions. To the purists I'm sorry it may look a little funny, but with the foam on it looks decent. Total cost $460.

Well done. You can always get out the bondo and sander to make it smoooth. You created a decent steak for the price of hamburger.

Hey thanks. I thought about doing that and painting it gray. I might take it to the next level.

Did you cut holes for the functions in the base to work?

No, I may still do it. It's mostly for show like I was saying.
