I just purchased my 83 H/O w moonroof about 2 weeks ago. It is in very good shape except for the underhood insulation that is missing and I am having a hard time finding and the original styled am/fm cassette with eq stereo by Delco that I am having trouble finding. But the 307 is a little on the week side. It has 84,000 miles on it and does run well. I just want more power for the car.
I am interested in this fall getting an Olds 350 or a mildly built 403 for it. Out of the reading that I have done, I realize that the 403 has a siamese block and has oiling problems over 5 grand. But I dont plan on doing any racing with it. So besides heads from a 72 Olds 350, an Edelbrock performer intake and carb, MSD electronics...it seems that the 403 would be a much better performer than the 350. Are there any good shops on the east coast that specialize in Olds engines that could set me up if I am watching my coins? Would the 350 be a better motor?

 

Both the 350 and the 403 are excellent motors. Your deciding factor should probably be which one you can find easier. In the mean time, some improvements you can do include high quality dual exhaust (if you don't already have it), headers, and an aftermarket intake and carb. Any improvements you do to the 307 should swap over to the 403 without any problem since they are both SBO motors. I don't know of any good shops on the E coast, but I'm sure someone else might have some ideas. Either that or you can contact your local OCA for information.

I am just south 30 miles south of Frederick, 55 miles SW of Baltimore and 45 miles from Washington, D.C. Do you ever go to the Ocean City spring or fall 4 day car cruises? I am about 90 miles from the Eastern Shore. There is a big show this fall at the UPS building in Laurel, MD. Attracts over 1200 cars...I will keep you posted on that huge show.
