68 & 69 elementry questions

I've always been fascinated by the 68 & 69 H/Os. I've only seen a couple in person in my lifetime and frankly had no idea if they were legit or not. I've searched the archives briefly but still have a couple of quickies to ask if you please.
  1. Were there any convertibles produced for these years?
  2. Should I expect to see red plastic inner fenders on a properly restored originals?
  3. Would all have black interiors with bucket seats?
  4. Any manual transmissions or did all have 400 autos with dual gates floor shifters?
  5. I've seen a link to the 69 VIN listing, is there a 68 list available?
thanks,
tc

I'll take a stab at the answers:
  1. Were there any convertibles produced for these years? Yes, I believe the numbers are 6 for 1968 (not sure how many of them qualify as "pilot" VS. "production") & 3 for 1969.
  2. Should I expect to see red plastic inner fenders on a properly restored originals? Yes, 1968 & No, 1969.
  3. Would all have black interiors with bucket seats? Yes, with gold stripes on the headrests for '69.
  4. Any manual transmissions or did all have 400 autos with dual gates floor shifters? ALL of the production H/Os are automatic transmission - there is a surviving "pilot/pre-production" converted 442 that was originally a 4-speed.
  5. I've seen a link to the 69 VIN listing, is there a 68 list available? The H/OCA keeps the recently found (~15 years ago) '68 list under wraps - I don't believe it has been published.

I believe you are correct on all accounts...just never heard about any '68 convertibles before. Got to see one of the '69 convertibles at the H/O Nationals in Indy last month, beautiful car. I do remember it had gold carpeting instead of black.

Thanks fellas for the info. Joe's pic of the 68 seems to show a different paint scheme as well. I noticed that after pulling my eyes away from Linda..

Thanks for the '68 vert pics. I now seem to remember seeing that gold w//black scheme in a picture many years ago.
