1967 Pontiac GTO vs 1968 Hurst Olds | PURE STOCK DRAG RACE

Good stuff as usual Charlie, and great to see a "pure stock race" that ran like actual stock. I have watched the clip several times already. Thank you for posting this.
Agreed, yes on both points. 13.95 @ 93.83 does not mesh... at all. He had a car length lead off the line but somehow with enough additional horse power and gearing to overcome it's weight disadvantage, lost ...
Would love to see an all out 2 out of 3.
I think the H/O pulls it out.
In the end the H/O had a 210 lb penalty. And was still close even though he lifted... Balancing out the weight alone puts it under a 1/10th of a second difference. Great race on video, in history, and on paper.

13.95 indicates 330 HP flywheel net but the 68 H/O is underrated. It's flywheel net HP is around 350. And it's a 400/+ gross HP car when factory correct.
Below is what the MPH on a car like that, that's running that ET should of been. While entering specific test weight.
9 MPH short... The man eased of the gas with a few hundred feet to go ...
Meanwhile the GTO ran an essentially perfect pass. For a 3720 lb 330 flywheel net HP version. (And yes the GTOs gross rating was underrated as well...)
Again had the Olds ran all out. This would of went from a great to an amazing race.
P.S. as you can see Charlie I enjoyed every bit of your post. Pure pleasure dissecting it from every angle...

I watch that YouTube channel, some of his earlier videos were pretty funny with the childish crude humor.
If that’s the same Hurst/Olds featured in some of his other videos, it definitely had a problem on that run.
There is a few videos of another barn find 68 Hurst/Olds running deep into the 12s. And before anyone starts complaining “that ain’t stock, they weren’t that fast back then!!” you need to read and understand the rules. Stock means correct heads, carb, tires, exhaust, etc. Rear gear, converter, invisible suspension modifications, etc, are all legal. Basically, it has to LOOK stock, with stock type parts, but as long as it isn’t obviously aftermarket, it’s legal.
