making tribute 68 442 - what emblems are right?

Need your help once again and cant think of a better place to ask.

I have a 68 S and creating a tribute 442. I see a lot of pics on line of 68 442's with the no emblems on the hood - no rocket or oldsmobile script on right side the I see some that have just oldsmobile and so on - same goes fore the rear. Anyone know what's right or is a there a place that has that info?
appreciate you responses.

the front 442 emblem goes in center of 442 frill which you will need if cloning.
far as hood you will need to remove S emblem and leave hood blank

so no rocket emblem on hood or oldsmobile script on drivers side of hood. and a rocket on back with of course 442 on right. If you do a google search you see so many different variations

thanks for you help. Any pics of the 68 you have?

Good so far
note please that '68 numerals [don't get to use that word much] are shorter and fatter than '69-72 versions, and black surrounded by a single chrome outline.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/68-OLDSMOBIL...be3ce9&vxp=mtr

So, to sum up:
442 in the center of your new rectangle style black "frill" :-)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Oldsmob...a9a600&vxp=mtr

442 on RH side of decklid
442 on each front fender, located differently depending on whether you use the W36 vertical stripe or not- see other thread for the nitty gritty.

442 on glovebox door- see Fusick's perhaps?

Remove Other scripts and whatnot from hood

Rocket emblem on decklid center

Hood should have raised center section like Cutlass S

Wheel opening trims are also like Cutlass S, nut Cutlass

what'd we miss?

My glovebox has a cutlass metal stick on badge within a raised box and an S to the right of that- Is the 442 glovebox door different or does the 442 go inside that raised box/outline. Anyone have a good spot to pick one of those up if different

Hi Guys,

My 68 442 convertible doesn't have a rocket emblem on the trunk above the lock. I've seen them with and without. Can someone officially tell me what is correct?

Thanks!

Craig

If you are able to remove that "Cutlass" emblem from the glove box door without damaging it, I'd be willing to buy that off of you. I've see re-pops of the "442" and "Cutlass Supreme" emblem, but not one that says just "Cutlass". Mine's wrinkled and I've been looking for a decent replacement. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks.

OPGI also sells re-pop 442 glove box door emblems. It fits in the same place your "Cutlass" emblem fits. However, you may have to remove the "S" to the left of it to make it look like a 442 glove box door. Not sure if that'll leave a mark or not. I've also seen complete 442 glove box doors on Ebay, I believe one from a '69 also fits.

This may not be other peoples' stance, but mine is that the proper emblems for that car are the ones it came with. Tribute is just a euphemism for clone.

The best emblems are the ones that came on the car and let it be what it is for a change.
