455 Pistons
455 Pistons
Hi Folks, Looking at sources for new .030" pistons for my '68 455 w/ "c" heads (80 cc)and getting frustrated. Almost done with rebuild, I used W-30 cam specs but otherwise planning to build a standard pump gas / daily driver 455 and would like to match standard compression for '69 (10.25 to 10.50-1) tried calling summit and jeggs and they would source APD speed pro @ 9.4 - 1 for $320 or CP bullit pistons at 10.4-1 for $750 for a set of eight.
Two questions:
1. Is anyone running 10.5-1 compression on a 455 and using 93 Octane w/out drive-ability issues.
2. Any source for reasonable .030" pistons besides the above mentioned? Cast or Forged?
Thanks, Greg '69 442

Having a hard time believing you couldn't find other piston options but whatever. Steer clear of the Speed pros, very outdated.
Try Wiseco or Icon to achieve 10-10.25:1. That's what I'd shoot for with irons and both are forged.
Also, not sure why you'd waste your hard earned cash on a cam that uses 40+ year old profiles, there's better stuff out there if you're interested.
Best of luck in your project.
