71 cutlass with tilt.Lock removal is type that you push on a plunger to remove. What posistion does the Key have to be in to remove and replace.Thanks.

The manual says the ACC position, but in reality it doesn't matter.

I've found it a little more involved than just pushing a plunger. The 2 I have changed the "place/spot" that the long thin flat blade screw driver needs to go was "flashed" over. I had to remove the thin "skin" of what I call pot metal, exposing the spot for the driver to go in for the release. As I recall follow the screw tower down, push on flashing exposing the real slot. CSM doesn't show this very good in my opinion. Maybe I just had a bad casting but both times I experienced this. Ken

Some have the flashing and some don't. Personally, I have never encountered it, but it could always be there.

I've never encountered one that DIDN'T have the flashing. You don't need the key at all to pull the lock cylinder. The reason why the factory specifies a certain location is so that the internal mechanism is properly aligned in a known position when you reinstall the cylinder. With the cylinder out, you can simply use a screwdriver to rotate the mechanism to whatever position you want for reinstallation.

I though about this some more. The screw "tower" has a flat side toward an elevated slot. Put the blade of your long thin screwdriver on the "flat" side following it all the down. Open up this area if you encounter any flashing. Once down in the real slot rotate the driver all you can to catch the the release tub. Ken
