Fuel Pump Question

Bought a fuel pump the other day and it is for a 72 350 but on my car there doesn't seem to be a return line .Can a fuel pump with the return line be used on a motor where there is no return line ?Can the return line be plugged ?

You can plug it, but if the plug were to loosen up, it'd be messy.

Why not just exchange it for the right one?

If it was a one-off flea market deal, then just hang on to it until you get a car it will fit .

No i bought it thinking the old one was not working properly but I noticed that the one on the car had no return line.I have already installed it once but I took it back off after realizing the fuel pump wasn't fixing my problem .Turned out to be the MSD hookup. Not sure if i can return it now ,but if it I can use it with the return line plugged I may stick it back on.

Just plug the line. This is really no big deal. The "if it loosens up" argument can apply to the feed line to the carb as well, so just be sure everything is tighened properly.

I won't belabor this, because I'm driving around with a rubber fuel line between my fuel pump and my carb myself right now , but if you plug the return line with rubber (hose 'n' a bolt), there's a chance it could leak.

Yes, if it were me, I'd just plug it, but I'm trying to give "good" advice here, not "here's what I would do" advice .

I had a problem when I plugged that return line. I had rebuilt two separate Q jets for my car with Cliff Ruggles, both carbs after shutting the motor down would weep some fuel into the intake, we had all new needles and seat in both carbs and yes the ethanol resistant ones. We found that the return line being plugged would hold to much pressure against the needle and seat and in fact it increased after shutting the motor down, probably from expansion of the fuel when heat soaked. I ran a return line and no more problems. I would just get the correct pump then you won't have to worry about any issues. Just my experience.
