'69 Cutlass 'S' convert. the rear veiw mirror is right in middle of the windsheild, causes a major bblind spot. Is it possible to raise it some how ? If not, can I cut in half, remove about 2'' and get it welded, ? thanks

 

You don't have the correct mirror, it should not be connected to the windshield at all. It should be connected to the top of the windshield frame.

 

it is connected the to the upper frame, and the botton of the mirror extends down about 5'' , also is the mirror with the map lite in it

 

Every GM A-body '68-'72 has been like that. It is dangerous. I almost collided with someone when driving my '70 GTO because they were approaching from the right at a speed and distance that kept their car 'behind' the mirror the whole way and I never saw them and just barely avoided a collision. I'm not sure what could be retrofitted that would allow the mirror to move up without loosing the ability to see out the back window properly.

 

Yep! I've always thought my mirror hung down too low! Plus... When did the gas pump hoses get so short. I never had any problems back in the day but now it seems that unless I'm in exactly the right spot, the hose is too short to go to the tank filler...What's up with that?

 

that's what brought it to my attention, my wife almost had an accident yesterday because of it .....I assume nobody has come with an alternative ?

 

Wow, I've owned some sort of '68-72 Cutlass since 1976 and never have I had the mirror get in the way. Maybe because I'm tall (6'3") all mirrors have been in the way for me and I've just learned to compensate. Perhaps shorter people don't have the mirror in the way on modern cars, but the older ones they do.

 

All I can say is that you guys must be very tall. I'm 6'2" and I've never had this problem.

 

Just get a later model mirror that glues onto the windshield. Henry

 

I'm 6'1" and this has been an issue for me, I think moving the seat back a couple inches would help a lot. This is with a stock bench seat, I don't know about a bucket seat car.

There's some stations around here I can't go to because of this issue.

 

It is an issue. I usually adjust the mirror up some with the screw and then tilt it back down. It works fine for me. 6'0".

 

I pushed it all the way forward and turned it upside down (180 degrees) ,, works a lot better, but only thing now, is the day/night button is on the bottom, which is Ok, and the swictch and the 'maplite' are on the top,, I can live with that thou, all together gave me about 2''

 

Uh, the factory mirror DOES have the day/night lever on the bottom, along with the optional map light. Can you post a photo of yours?

 

my mistake here ! the map lite AND the day/nite lever ARE on the bottom. What I felt at the top was a small tab sticking up, (for holding mirror face on maybe ) , and I mistook it for ther lite switch. This all means that the mirror was upside down before. hmmmmmm, betcha I did that during my restoration process..............thanks guys !

 

Where the mirror arm attaches to the header, there is a ball pivot in the clamp which allows the mirror to move forward and back and left or right (lots) according to your requirements...this is in addition to the little pivot at the mirror head...

The small tab sticking up at the top is a UHF antenna for your GPS and OnStar...
