Headliner to A pillar

I had my headliner installed and the extra material comes down the a pillar about 2-3" on my 67 442 coupe. My guy who did it insists there should be some sort of cover over the black painted steel inside the car, I thought they were just black. How far should the headliner material come down and did they simply cut it off and stop it at a certain point on the pillar?

I'm not as familiar with the earlier years, but the later years all use an A pillar trim, usually painted interior dash color.
Looks like AMD markets one for the 66/67 A body.

There is a small pot metal piece with a screw holding it to the top of the A pillar. The headliner terminates under that piece
