57 Olds Super 88 4BBL Carburetor

I just bought a 57 Super 88 that has a 569138 cast iron intake and someone attempted to run a 1406 Edelbrock carburetor on it. I don't know if this is achievable or what but I can't get the idle to come down no matter what I do. I tried plugging all the auxillary vacuum ports up to no avail. I ran out of ideas and need help fast please?!

Tough armchair call, stuck in choke fast idle mode, stuck distributor advance, mixture screws out too far, carb gasket interfering with throttle plates, vacuum leak, secondary throttle plates open slightly, try disconnecting the throttle linkage completely and starting, this might take some trial and error. Maybe taking carb off and observing throttle blades are closing completely. I like using the original carb, but a vintage 4gc for your car might be hard to find. Best of luck. Do you have any pictures you can post of the Super 88?

Thank you shiftbyear. I believe I found out the problems. The makeshift linkage was not allowing the throttle plates to close completely. The reason for the intermittent turn on and off was caused by a damaged lobes opn the distibutor. The eloctrolytic capacitor or maybe never protected with enough lubricant. Ended up oxidizing three lobes on my distributor-so intermittently it wil work and fail making and breaking the primary circuit. Good thing I bought a spare factory 57-57 Olds J2 powerplant with a 4 speed Jetaway transmission. I bought this drivetrain just in case I wouldn't like the 3 speed synchromesh it came with originally. I will try to load pictures up with my cell later. Oh, I also have a 60 Olds Dynamic 88 Fiesta Wagon. That one drives amazingly well for her age. That one came with factory power steering, air conditioning, power brakes and rear power window. I have a lot on my hands. Not to mention my 63 Novas. I'm going to get started wrenching now. Enjoy your Veterans Day my friend. GOD BLESS

Well I finally got my Olds running. I love it. Just need to take it slow and keep my eye and ears opened to notice anything out of the norm.
