Replacement timing cover issue...

My original 1966 330 timing cover was terribly pitted, so I got those one from the Parts Place on eBay.
Timing cover

My engine builder says the crank seal goes right through the hole, as the hole is too large, and the holes to attach the water pump aren't threaded.
Is this common on replacements?
Is there an oversized seal that is used?
Tap the holes myself?
The covers from this vendor are garbage?
Any help is appreciated....
