68 442 windshield wiper motor

i bought a 442 recently and wipers or fluid pump doesn’t work. The car was a racer so lots of stuff has been disconnected for years. I tested the switch and have voltage at the motor. I made it move half a swipe but that’s it. Should I just buy a new motor and pump? Is there anything about the mechanism tovthe wiper arms that I should check / clean? Is it a coincidence that the pump and motor aren’t working? Thanks. —Billy.

Well, the motor drives the pump, so if the motor does not rotate then the pump will not work.

Does anyone know if I can buy a wiper motor for a 1968 442 at a regular auto supply or is this a special order item to try to find? -Billy

Should be available. Check Fusick, Year One, Parts Place, OPG, Rock Auto or a Non Big Box parts house. Remember many of the 68 GM A-Bodies use many common interchangeable parts, Chevelle, Skylark, GTO. Hang on to the old assembly if that's a concern for you. If it has the white plastic washer pump its likely original or a very old replacement. Make sure all grounds are good and the connector contacts are clean. Lube the wiper arm transmission ball joints et al...
