Reconditioning thermostat housing

Hi, was looking to get some input about the bypass tube on my thermostat housing. I was looking for information if anyone has removed the tube , how they did it and how it is put together. I have a source thru my job where I can have the tube replated if I can get it separated from the cast piece.

I admire your taste to detail. I've not read discussions on removing the tube.

My opinion, its not worth it.

Just blast your current piece and paint. If thats not good enough, get another one.

I have to agree with Don, not worth the effort.
I believe they were silver soldered in place.
You would destroy the pipe and possibly the housing before getting it out.

yellow,

Has the tube come out? Is it rusted out? If so, then yes the housing should be replaced as the others have stated.

With ours, the tube wasn't loose or damaged so I just resurfaced the corrosion on the gasket mating surface with 180 grit on a belt sander, repainted and reinstalled it with a new T-stat and gasket and called it a day.

I like the generic black thermostat gasket from Oreilly, seems a bit thicker then a felpro. I like ultra blue RTV, both sides, then let it cure overnight.

Re-Check torque after warm up and cool down.

never had a leak yet on about 20 Olds engines..
