Where to find key code

Hi, the keys for my 67 442 got lost or stolen while the car was in winter storage. Is the key code on the build sheet, or somewhere that I can pull them to get new keys made? Thanks, Joel

Drivers' door lock for ignition key, glove compartment lock for trunk key. Both will have a number referenced in a Briggs & Stratton code book where key blanks can then get cut. Only hiccup is if your lock sets are extremely worn, the newly cut keys may take some wiggling to function. A locksmith can cut keys based on the codes, there are guys on this board who can do the job also. I am currently out of all genuine GM blanks.

I have seen pros take a brass blank clamped in vise grips, insert the blank in the lock, wiggle it back and forth in the lock, remove, observe the marks the tumblers make on the blank, then file and try, file and try with a rat tail and triangular file. Then wire brush when the key works, then copy to the desired finished key. Takes about five minutes. I have tried it without success.

Door locks and ign locks should use the same key, glove comp and trunk the same key.

That is very helpful information, thanks! I'll let you know how it works out.

The key codes should be on the original bill of sale from the dealer, if you have that.

I don't have the original bill of sale, but I do have the build sheet/broadcast sheet that I found in the seat back.

If u find codes I can cut keys for you. Impressioning keys on a GM is almost impossible. Ford and Chrysler impression pretty.good.

The driver's door lock cylinder and the trunk lock cylinder will each have a four character code stamped on them if they are original.

I located the code on the door lock by sticking my borescope down thru the window channel. I couldn't find the code on the glove box lock, so I took it off and dropped it at the local locksmith this morning on my way to work, along with the door lock code. He just called to say my keys are ready! I can't wait to get home tonight and see if they work.

Thanks for the help, guys!

FYI: Key codes are on my 69 build sheet and Reliability Accessory Check card. Glad you got them made though!
