What have I done wrong?

My friend gave me a beautiful steering wheel cap for my 66 442. It is identical to the original one but it is from a 65. When I tried to install the cap and twist it to lock, the rocket is pointing at an angle. I’m not home so I can’t take a picture now but I think I have either the wheel upside down or the center bar casting on upside down. How can you tell if the wheel is on correctly? Thanks, Frank

Put both 1965 and 66 next to each other and flip them over. Are the locking tabs in the same orientation relative to the rocket on the front or not?

And photos would help. I'm ***-U-MING that you are talking about the F85 deluxe wheel.

Are you turning it the right way? It has backwards threads i think, also look at the wheel nut, should be a dot on the shaft to align straight up, also those caps come apart and could be assembled wrong

They are easy to install wrong. I think it seems it turns counter clockwise easy but it goes clock wise and takes more effort. If I have this rewversed, try it the other way.

Found out I didn’t turn it far enough counter clockwise. It’s in and done now. Thanks for the help
