Valve stem too short

On my 85 Delta the valve stems are way too short. They don't stick very far out of the hubcap and putting air in the tires is a real PIA.

I did buy those valve extenders and I take them off, because if I leave them on, they will be gone in the morning, plus they stick out pretty far.

How long of a valve stem should I go with, with the wire wheels covers? Also I'm kicking around just ditching these wheels and putting on a set of the 82-92 Camaro 5 spoke wheels instead. Gray not the gold. How do you think they would look on a "Dark Blue Metalic" 2 door Delta with RWL tires in the future

Only other thing to do is to get the tires broke down and install LONG valvestems. They are available in various lengths. Any tire shop will have them.

For now, just keep an extension in the glove compartment, and use it if you need to check or fill your tires. Probably not worth the $15 a wheel to remove the tires, change to longer valves, and rebalance.

Why would your extensions be gone in the morning it you left them attached?

Indeed. I just specified I wanted longer stems to clear the wheel covers last time I got tires. They installed them without problem.

Without asking for them though, the tire monkey will probably just toss on whatever he usually does. So make sure you mention it.

Tire monkey? LOL!!

I know they make "stubby" stems which I hate, but I just thought they were a standard lenght

$15.00???? A WHEEL. Its free if you have your own tire machine. Come on by and I will put it on for you for free...if you have Oldsmobile only. You can get smaller extensions.

I've been looking for a tire machine for a reasonable price for years - no luck yet, but I've still got my eyes open!

Took me about a year of searching Craigslist to find mine. It's an Faip 22 rim clamp unit.

Yeah, I'd never heard of them either. The company was based in Modena, so this is apparently the Ferrarri of tire machines. In any case, it was $300 and works great. I also picked up a Hunter 700 balancer for $350.

Of course, I also got us even further off topic.

Thanks for the thought, but I'm not driving 5 hours or paying $600 for one.

I'd have to mount a whole lot of tires to make up for that!

I appreciate your looking, though!
