Well, I got the 66 Tri carb 442 home today. Trying to identify the carbs but do not see any markings on them. Is there a stamping? They are Rochesters. What model if you will, did Olds call them?

Need info on rebuilding them. The outer two specifically.

The carb types are Rochester 2GC. The identification numbers would be on a small triangular metal tag held under one of the air horn screws. These tags can get torn off or lost in a rebuild, unfortunately.

 

Isn't the "C" for Choke, making the center one a 2GC and the others 2G?

The carb numbers [which were on tags] should be
7026055
7026056
7026057

Which will get you the right kits. PN 1134 at Fusick's for the kits. I cannot find the tag vendor right now but it can't be that tough.

 

Correct. The center carb is a 2GC and the end carbs are 2G's.

Found this multi-part video for rebuilding.

Stacy David did a show a couple years ago about the tri-power as well.

actually, the "c" (or "v") specifies the type of choke, in the case of a "c" it is the self-contained choke integral to the carb. body. now if we were talking about a divorced choke coil equipped carb, the letter would be a "v".

He has all the hard to find specific parts for the tripower 2bbl carbs... new throttle shafts, choke parts... basic rebuild kits... etc etc. Even thought they specialize in the pontiac stuff, he knows the Olds stuff too.

What distributor is everyone using with the tri-power?

Currently using a multi-spark summit box and the billet street / strip distributor. Would like to get rid of the box to make it more period correct. Some where I saw a GM Delco sticker that would cover the Summit label, just can't find it now. Maybe I can hide the box and switch to a round coil.

Any ideas?

I don't understand why adapter plates were used on the carbs in the before pic? Those are for bolting a Holley 2bbl on a 2G base or vice versa.

Think the adaptor plates will cause issues? Same plates are on the rebuild, just cut off the ears. Having an idle issue. Won't idle below 1100 without stalling.

You're not using them now as far as I can see in your pics. I'm just wondering why they were used in the first place.

Finished rebuilding them today. I got the rebuild kit from John at pontiac tri carb.com as mentioned.. Very helpful and the car seems to be running well.

The previous owner had the front and rear carbs blocked off and said they kept flooding the engine. I found the floats on the front and rear carbs way off (adjustment wise).

 

I know it's an older post, Trip, but maybe the adapters are small base to large base? Hard to tell by the pics.

 

The plates are still on there. The ears were cut off and powdercoated to match the carbs.
