If it's the original driven gear in the tranny, the teeth may be wearing down and not engaging the drive gear properly any more.

Speedo

It's been changed maybe I need another one so I guess I have to find. Out what gear is in there I never changed one but the plate on the M21 holds it right. Then take it out replace and lube what should I use for lube
I should be able to look at the gear teeth

I took the gear out and it looks like new, The cable spins it must be in the head
Speedo any Ideas Also to they make a special gasket or o ring on that housing that goes in the tranny ,So it won't leak .
Thanks

Even though the cable may spin it may be broken inside the sleeve, see if it pulls out. You can hook a drill motor to it and see if the speedo changes.

My guess is that your speedo indicator is dragging, why do I think that? Well if you odometer still works, you said it still does work, that will rule out a bad cable or drive.
There is no mechanical connection from the cable to the speed indicator in the head so it can be stuck in any position even though the cable is turning. The very light spring tension is what makes it come back down slowly even though it's dragging. Take it apart and see if it's free or not....

Does it work? If it did not then its back to the speedometer itself.
