PAS Cooling
Hello friends,
I have seen in both my cars that they have a cooling line for PAS fluid. And one has a filter at the bottom of the reservoir. I don't think I have found any of those on the 87 cruiser with 307.
Is it because they have rack and pinion steering and Olds having a steering box? Do retrofitting such cooling and filtering actually provide any benefit to old systems? Just curious to know.

Most GM cars through the 1990s with Saginaw steering boxes are over designed and don't need a cooler for the PS fluid. Some GM vehicles of that era have an aux cooler for the PS fluid that is separate from the radiator. My 1999 crewcab dually has one, for example. As cars get smaller and components are more highly stressed to save weight (and gain a fraction of an MPG), such coolers are more commonplace. Makes you wonder if the trade-off is worth it.
