Is what you fellas call a "Jetaway" 2 speed the same trans as the switch pitch Super Turbine 300 BOP 2 speed trans? 1964-1966 only and BOP's only?

I have heard that term before but a trans guru years ago helped me decode my trans and he said it was an ST300?

"Jetway" was Oldsmobile speak, ST300 was I believe what Buick called it. "Super Turbine 300".....

 

Yep..I am a little rusty on my "oldsmobile speak" but I remember the Super Turbine 300 terminology.

 

ST300 is actually a better definition.

The ACTUAL jetaway trans came out in the early 50's.

Unfortunately, a totally Different trans (the st300) was also called a jetaway in the gm chassis service manual 64-69

ST300 is a better terminology in my opinion. I know right away that people are referring to the 64-69 2 speed when they call it that.
Calling it an st300 lets me know that it's the one right before the 350, instead of the older jetaway that would have been in my dad's chieftain.

 

Another recycling of an old name by oldsmobile.

Kind of like how they're all "rockets"

Well this makes me smile. I always liked he ST300 talk. I have met a slim few thateem know what the hell it is lol. I have a cool link somewhere to a neat web page on the ST300.

 

I bet the link is cool. I'd be interested in looking at it , but I can save everyone who doesn't, the read.

It's a th350 that is missing 1st gear. LOL.
Running one of those things feels like taking off from a stop sign in 3rd gear with a manual trans. Sloooooow going.

 

I used to burn rubber up the street with mine. As long as the switch pitch was operating correctly, it was a very good trans.

 

1 nice thing about those, is some of them had a dual bolt pattern case because they came behind both the olds 330 and the chevy 6 cylinder.
Those are handy to keep around if they work ok, and are a direct bolt in replacement for a 200c or th350 car.

Blew the trans in your 80 chev malibu and need to get to work on monday?
no fear. st300 to the rescue.
Fragged your th350 in your 72 cutlass at the track and need to get home?
st300 to the rescue.

he Super Turbine 300 (Jetaway) was introduced for the 1964 model year as a replacement for the earlier Buick Dynaflow and Oldsmobile/Pontiac Roto Hydramatic transmissions. It was the only automatic offered on GM A platform cars (Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Cutlass, and Pontiac Tempest) through 1966.
