horn

Hey guys what is the secret to putting (what I call) the snap ring back in the steering column after the turn signals and horn is fixed. I had a hard time getting it out and now can't get it back in. Is there a special tool for this?

Why, yes. Yes there is.

I've never used one, myself - I'm so frickin' cheap that I back the seat all the way up, then get the edges of my shoes (and a couple of small blocks of wood) up against the lock plate to depress it, and use a small screwdriver to pop the ring back in.

But I'm crazy, and one day, when I've begun taking my medicines as prescribed, I'll get one of those things.

Re-examine my post for the link to Advance Auto Parts.

You can also get one at AutoZone, O'Reilly, NAPA, or any other parts store, or on eBay or Amazon.

so.... how did you get that snap ring OUT w/o that tool ??

That snap ring, by the way, is where you learn the difference between

and

I've always just used two small screwdrivers.

I did too until I bought one of those sets of picks that Chris shows.

I've got one of those sets of picks... somewhere... but I always just reach for the screwdrivers, because at least I know where I can find them.

That special tool Eric showed & a good pick set are invaluable if you mess with these cars much. I keep them along with a steering wheel removal kit in my work van & if/when I find good wheels in the yard, I can get them.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that has loosened the large nut on a sport wheel & then stood & strained against the floor board & pulled like hell on the wheel to try to get it off, usually unsuccessfully.
