Help with u-joints. Bearing cap diameter 1.125"

I ordered u-joints for my 69 Ninety-Eight and after pressing out my old ones found that they are incorrect (Moog 270 & 290). The joints I need have 1.125" bearing caps all around on both joints. The originals had the plastic retainers and I am assuming the new joints would use snap rings on the inside. The measurement between the yoke ears is approximately 2.575". It looks as though both front and rear joints would now be the same? Does anyone have a part number for these? The part suppliers are of no help.

Do you know what type of rearend is under the car?

Below is the listing from Rock Auto for a 1969 Oldsmobile 98. I did not see any of the u-joints with 1 1/8" caps all around.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...sal+joint,2392

According to the listing, the 290 is a combination u-joint that has 1 1/8" and 1.062" bearing caps:
MOOG 290 Super Strength; Greasable
At Rear Axle; Combination U-Joint (354 X 534G)

And the 270 has all four 1.063" bearing caps:
MOOG 270 Super Strength; Greasable
At Transmission; 1.063 IN Bearing Caps

Stock rear end, O-type I believe. I ordered them from Rock Auto and did look through their product list again. After some thought I went through the joints for other models and come across Dana 5795x under 442. The measurements match my old joints. I crossed it to Moog 534G and ordered them for under $10 each.
Crossing my fingers. Rough day. Got 2 identical motor mounts this afternoon. One was boxed incorrectly with the part number of the opposite side.

To the OP:

The 1969 full size cars could have come with either Saginaw or Spicer U-joints. The Spicer U-joints used outside snap rings, the Saginaw used inside snap rings. The Saginaw U-joint are the same at both ends (P/N 7806140). The Spicer U-joints are different front and back. The front uses outside snap rings on all four trunnions (P/N 390133) and mixed with two outside and two inside (for the end that went to the pinion yoke) on the rear (P/N 390134). Note that the Saginaw U-joints had 1.125" trunnions and are 3R series U-joints, while the Spicer U-joints had 1.0625" trunnions and are 1330 series U-joints.

Since your old U-joints are 1.125", they are Saginaw style. The GM 7806140 part number crosses to Spicer aftermarket P/N 5-3147X. This also crosses to a U513 or Neapco 2-2700 U-joint. They are available pretty much everywhere for about $20 each.

Joe
The Moog part number I ordered (not from Rock Auto) interchanges with the numbers you have provided.
Also need to mention that I read far more than I post here and until today you have always answered my questions before I could ask them. Thank you for the help through out the years.

Which numbers? Moog 534G is the premium grade greaseable interchange for the Spicer 5-3147X and GM 7806140. Moog 234 is the same U-joint in non-greaseable form. Moog 235 is the greaseable version of 234. All three ofthese Moog numbers have 1.125 x 1.125 trunnions and inside snap rings. FYI, 534G is the U-joint I used on my 1967 Delta and is also the U-joint that I used on my 1985 Deltas.

I purchased 2 Moog 534G joints. I prefer the greaseable type.

That will work. Just be sure that the U-joint is installed so that the grease fitting hole is in compression, not tension.
