Hi. Im rebuilding a 71 olds 350 and need to know which way the main bearing caps go on. They are numbered 1thru 5 but which side faces to the front?

Some, I don't know if all of them, have a small arrow cast in the top, that indicates the front of the motor. If not match, up the bearing knotches so they are mateing on the same side.

The bearing alignment/locating tabs go together.

The caps only fit properly one way. The caps and block are offset, the cap won’t seat into the cap register unless they are positioned correctly

The caps are The same on both sides and fit the same both ways. There iis a number on top next to one bolt hole and the letter A next to the other bolt hole
well I got it figured out after checking tolerances many times come to find out the numbers side of the cap goes on the driver's side of the motor
