Gas tank options for my '72 98

The tank that came on my 98 (original i believe) is rotted beyond use. If you search for a "1972 Oldsmobile 98 gas tank" you find none for that year/make/model. Lots of Cutlass and F85s. I'm getting a new trunk floor pan, so have a little wiggle room, but also getting dual exhaust pipes so need to keep the tank within original specs of approx 35" wide and 33" deep. If it's a little deeper, I guess I can have the filler neck cut/shortened.... But I am not finding anything that will fit. I don't mind going a little smaller - which I assume a Cutlass would be, but, a lot of sites don't give the measurements, and if they do, they're not 35" or skinnier. One of them said it 37.5" deep and pretty sure that ain't gonna work.

Anyone been down this road and have ideas?

Tanks are available for 73-74. Those have the vapor dome. If you can get a trunk pan for 73-74 car it will have the bump for the vapor dome and you can use the 73-74 tank.

If you replace the fuel sending unit make sure the ground post isn't contacting the underside of the car and shorting the circuit. I fought this problem when I restored the fuel tank in my 71 98.

If your existing trunk pan is good, would it not be easier to have a metal fabricator get rid of the bump on a reproduction 73 tank?

I'm getting a new trunk pan. I'm hoping to get a tank that will just "plug right in" and not need fabrication. If that's not possible, then obviously I'll have to adjust my approach. I'm seeing many that look just like mine, but the dimensions don't seem to match up - either too wide or too deep/long (front to back)

I put a 72 cutlass tank on my delta 88. A little smaller, but worked.

Keep your original filler tube in case a transplant is needed.

Thank you for the heads up on that. I'm looking to replace the sending unit on my '72 Ninety Eight.
You wouldn't happen to know the p/n for the sending unit?

Here's the thread I did when I replaced the fuel sending unit in my 71 98.

The FSU you need is FG106A. I provide a link in the thread above.
