Angry Gas Reading

Hello experts. Having fuel gauge issues and I was wondering if anyone had a trick to estimate how much gas is in the tank from the pour spout, i.e. running a hanger into the tank and see how wet the hanger tip is.

These fuel gauges were never that accurate. The only 2 absolutes were fully full or almost completely empty, anything in between was a guestimate. The sending unit sensor is 0-90 ohms based on the level of the arm.

I don't know a hanger trick. I'd probably try to repair the gauge. They may not be perfect, but are "reasonable" after calibration.

Better solution, fill the tank. Drive a 50 miles. Refill the tank. Drive another 50 miles, repeat as necessary.

Unless you have a massive fuel leak, the above method will almost certainly ensure you never run out of gas.

Or fix the fuel gauge.
