Garage find 1970 442 questions
Hi Everyone. My ex Father in Law Had a 1970 442 that he purchased from the original owner appx 30 years ago. He passed away 3 years ago. The car was driven 2 to 3 times in that 30years. It has set in his Garage for all the time. Now my ex mother in law says he told her it was Hurst 442. She wants me to help her sell the car. to get to the car I am have to tear the doors off, Clean it off from the blankets that he had all over the car.
Is there anything in the vin that would tell me if it is a Hurst. I was able to look in the window and snap a picture of the shifter and it is a Hurst, That is before the wasps chased me out.
The vin looks correct 344670M145882

A 70 convertible 442 by the VIN.
Food for thought:
Was the storage site dry and rodent-free?
What part of the country did it spend the last 30+ years in?
Snap a pic of the cowl tag under the hood up by the wipers, too.
Grab all of the paperwork, all of the spare parts lying around and spare keys too. Any history is value added.
Tell the reluctant mother-in-law just go find all of this. It will bring her more money and is a value added acquirement to the next owner.
Post it in the classified section here before out on the web.
Give one of us Olds aficionados a chance to give it a good home.
If you list the location, someone, including me, can volunteer to assess its condition and maybe even take it home without the internet tire kicker hassles.
To get the best sale results and ability to get whats its worth, you will need a few detailed CLEAR pictures.
1. to show originality
2. to show the trouble spots are not trouble.
Shots of the door seams, undercarriage/frame, trunk floors under the mat, interior floors... from under the car, engine, overall shots of interior & exterior.
Difference between a clean/solid/dry car vs a crusty beat-up-nothings-original rat-infested car is many many thousands.

Hello and thanks for the quick response. The car was in a dry garage. I do not think it had an rodent problem, I will Know more when I get a chance to get back to it. The car was originally purchased in Nebraska. There was 1 owner before my Father in law. He had it for around 30 years in a Florida Garage.
My plan is to get back to it maybe in August, get it out of the garage, cleaned up and checked out as much as I can. I am enough of a mechanic to change all the fluids, check ignition and put a battery in it and see if it starts I will check the gas tank before i start it. see if it has bad gas in it.
I will keep everyone in mind here.
From my quick look it is all original, no rust that I could see. But the wasps were a little bad.
