found a '67 442 w/ mt the owner swears its a hurst optioned car how do i validate it?

i posted a wanted ad for various parts & received an email from a guy who claims to have a few old cars & parts for sale. so i call the guy & leave vm. he calls me back about 2 weeks later & we get to talking. claims he has a 425 for sale & a '67 442 he wants to sell. 1st thing he says is that the 442 has a manual transmission & that it was a "Hurst" optioned car. says that he purchased the car from the original owner in Tennessee. also says the car has original gold paint & black interior, posi diff, hurst shifter etc. the only thing on the car thats not original is the motor. he says the original owner told him that he ordered the car directly from the dealer & that it was a special order of some kind. could there be any truth to this? i thought the hurst option wasn't available until '68. lastly if it is possible how can i validate that it is a hurst? guy says he has the pink but no literature

A Hurst Olds and a 442 with a Hurst shifter is two different things.

In 67, the 442 was a special order option(L78) available on the Cutlass Supreme.(I'm guessing that is what he went to the sealer to order.) The 4 speed shifter was a Hurst shifter. but the Hurst/Olds was not available until 68.

Was the guy out of Ohio? It's probably the same guy we've had discussions about somewhere here about 3 years ago. Allan R or Kurt (wmachine) could probably find that thread in about a minute!

no, this car is in Cali but the car came from Tennessee.

so i called the dude back & left vm because i'd like to see the car in person. guess it will be another month before i hear back from him. if he lets me see the car i'll see if i can take some pics & post up. guy seemed honest & was actually the one to inform me that the hurst option wasn't available until '68. he also mentioned that he's been questioned a lot about it being genuine & swears that it is. i'm curious to see for myself. either way i'll let you know
