Engine casting dates confusion

This pertains to a 350 CID in this case.
Engine #1 - # 3 casting with a january 69 casting date(22) Came in a 70 cutlass
Vin Confirms
Engine #2 - #4 casting With a March 70 casting date (77) Came in a 71Cutlass
Vin confirms

NOW THE QUESTION
If a 70 cutlass was built in the first 3-4 months of 70 ,lets say, would the block be a #3 or a #4 casting.
The two above engine examples are supper early for there respective models.
However i have found the three months before build to be totally out the window for Oldsmobiles

I seriously doubt a 1970 Cutlass would have used a block cast in Jan 1969. March 70 is similarly unlikely for a 1971 car. What are the build dates of those two cars?

No your not missing anything.
Yes i felt the same about engine #1 but it is a 70 with #6 heads and doesn't look to have ever been apart.

it would almost seem that oldsmobile just cast block after block after block. And used them at will. take the 71 block how does that make it into a 71 when 70's are still being made. What i don't know about these two engines are the plant they were assm. in.

So these motors seem waaaay early and i have also seen some cast the same week as the cars build date.

I have another 71 motor #4 90 casting date VIN with 71 Still early

No cars with these motors

check the vin pad should have for the letter of plant in the vin code,
