1630=163rd day of 1970, 3009=300th day of 1969. both are 1970 model year, generic 455 carbs. the question is, which was made first, the carb. or the block?

the inlet can be heli-coil repaired.
assuming the first 4 digits of the 253 carb. are 7040, the 7040253 is a 1970 cutlass/442 455 carb.

i'm going out on a limb here, but i'll say that if the 253 carb. number begins with 7040, it is the original carb. and the 251's are the spares.

bill thats the exact info i needed!!! thank you!! sx455s came with 251's execpt w32's they came with 253's, im about 100% positive that the 7040251 1630 is the original carb sence my car was built near the end of 70,

my next question is should i have the inlet on the 1630 heli-coil repaired or would i be better off finding 1 that has no damage and have that 1 rebulit?? thanks again

yw

it depends on the condition of the carb. if it all beat-up, i wouldn't bother with it, if it's nice, then i would get it heli-coiled.
