I did find the Protect-O-Plate, which confirmed that the 4 speed was from the factory. (S 4)

Worthless post

but I love the looks of that car in its current state... If it were mine, I'd just make sure the mechanicals were 100%, drive it in the summer, & garage it the rest of the time. I hope it's kept original!

update

Well, this thread popped up on my daily ClassicOldsmobile look see, so I figured I'd give a little update on the restoration. "Little" because not much has been accomplished.
Car is completely stripped, front clip is off, body is ready to come off, engine and trans ready to be lifted out. Once I got it to this point, my wife "suggested" she would like to have her part of the garage back!! (How selfish!) Wound up buying a property with a 30' by 50' shop already on it. (Yay!) Moved the Delta and other projects out to the new shop. More problems with the old ticker set in for a while....feeling better now, hoping to get this project moving again soon.

Can't believe I missed this thread 'till today. I'm fascinated by these 65-70 manual trans 88's. They are almost inconceiveably rare. I still kick myself for not buying the burgundy 68 Delmont 455/3-sp. convertible in eastern PA that sold on eBay a few years ago for around $6K
If I recall correctly, it was also a 2-bbl, single exhaust engine but was equipped with a 3.08 anti-spin rear.
