I recently bought a used 71 442 hood. It is fiberglass with the metal structure underneath. How can I tell if it is original or aftermarket?

If it feels like it weighs 2000 lbs, it may be a factory original. Fiberglass didn't equal lighter overall weight for those hoods.

I've never picked up one of those aftermarket hoods, but I couldn't see them being as heavy. Not sure about that.

 

The factory hoods were fiberglass on top with a steel skeleton underneath. It also should/may have a "chicken wire" like mesh about in the middle of the hood. The scoops on top actually are funneled into a V shape between the fiberglass top & the steel frame. If you can get a few pictures on here, I'm sure we can figure it out. Take pix of the latch area, & the underneath edges & maybe a shot of the whole underneath?
