67 cutlass with a 425???
I just found a 67 cutlass convertible for sale and the owner claims that the car originally had a 425 in it. Has anyone ever heard of this installed from the factory. From what I can tell in the field that the car is sitting in the car has a tic-toc-tach a posi rear, rear sway bar and boxed rear arms. no cowl tag that I can find yet just a vin.
Yeah, I've heard of it frequently. Unfortunately, never with factory documentation to back it up. As noted above, the 425 was never factory installed in the A-body cars.
There are rumours of many 65-67 Cutlasses that came with 425's...
But no one has seen any documentation. A Protect-O-Plate would be the smoking gun on this.
That's not saying the factory skunkworks didn't stuff one in a Cutlass and head off to Woodward Avenue or other noted street scene. Pontiac, Mopar and Ford did it all the time. However, for legal sale of the car, the 425 would have had to come out and 330 or 400 go back in its place.
The newest Toronado Owner's Association newsletter has a neat article about the XSR in which they actually spec'd the dealer code for Oldsmobile Engineering. A POP for this Cutlass with that dealer code and a 425 could shed a lot of light...

The chatter on this subject goes way back, one thing that does make some sense is that some of these 442's not Cutlass (they had alot of 330 replacement engines) if the 400 failed under warranty ( I wonder why back then!
) there were many more 425's in stock than 400's. Olds was building alot more big cars then 442's. The Olds dealer replaced the 400 with a service replacment 425.

No, actually it wouldn't. The P-O-P only lists the engine unit number, which was stamped on the head. The heads bolt on to either a 400 or 425 block. Sorry, but it doesn't prove anything.
