Correct '70 442/W30 fender badge placement

Correct '70 442/W30 fender badge placement

I am getting dangerously close to putting some color on the body of my one of none 442 W30 wagon and a thought crossed my mind... I would much rather find a discrepency with the badge placement now rather than after it is covered in color/clear and trying to layout stripes. The left is a flat lipped version with no evidence of prior holes and suppossedly an original from a '70 W30, The right is also flat lipped, 442 badging and no evidence of prior badging. I have marked them off and compared, and found that they are within 1/8 to 3/16" of one another. I was wondering if anyone with the correct measurments for placement could share them to verify my placement to avoid a major issue in the future. I really appreciate the help.

Well alright, I would have that there would have been a plethora of knowledge here.. I know that there would be on a show field....

I have a loose set of 1971 fenders with 442 emblem holes, but not the W30 emblem holes. I did come across this though, if nobody comes up with what you need.

Living dangerously can do that..better than living passively. I like it - a one of none. Can't wait to see it in paint.

Hopefully someone with a W30 and emblems placed properly will post something. I looked at the referenced page in this post and the W30 442 numerals look to be in the same spot as the non W30. Just another set of holes for the W30 emblem. Don't know if that's what you're looking for. The W30 emblems were in the same spot for W30's 1970-1972

Also just a thought (yeah - danger Will Robinson!!!) The hydro piercing that was done at the plants could very well have been off 'just a smidge' from side to side. I wouldn't discount that especially if you appear to have OEM pierced fenders.

One of our local Olds folks was kind enough to take some measurements off of his unrestored, documented '71 W30 convertible. I had always thought that the W30 badge was centered in the wide band...perhaps a repaint of stripes or just an indication of loose tolerances of the day. Regardless, my measurements were almost exactly the same.. Hopefully these photos can provide some useful info to other inquiring minds.
