Convertible Top System

My 69 Olds 442 Convertible top goes up when I select "Down" and down when I select "Up". Ev everything is new, cylinders, lines, wiring, switch and pump. I didn't install the pump or lines that was done by the installer of the top. Is it possible the lines are reversed on the pump?

Pump is typically a T type connection

How is that possible? The switch is correct the orange power lead is connected to the relay on the firewall. All factor connectors plug in as designed. There are to "T" connections that go on the pump. I don't recall those being different sizes so is it possible those are backward? If they are would that cause the fluid flow to be backward?

Either the pump is wired incorrectly so it runs reverse of what the switch says, or the lines to the lift cylinders are plumbed backwards. You said everything was changed, so it could any of the above. If you can post pics of the lines from the motor to the cylinders we may be able to determine if they are connected correctly or not.

Easiest solution would be to swap the T fittings at the motor.

So I guess what I'm asking is if the lines are backward would that cause this. I wanted to see if anyone has ever experience this before I start opening the system. I have the procedure and I know the position of the line on the pump is important. I will review that procedure and check the lines for their position on the pump.

Yes, the fluid flow would cause the cylinders to move opposite of what the control switch position says.

Thank you, I have the back seat out so I will verify hose placement. If they are reversed and without looking at the installation procedure should the top be in the up position?

It's been too many years since I plumbed my new pump and cylinders (also a '69) but I believe the upper and lower hoses are different lengths so you can't get them backwards. I could be wrong. These things were designed for line workers to plug things in easily and not get it wrong. I wouldn't think they'd have to look at the pump plumbing to determine top from bottom.

Agreed, the hose lengths are designed so the upper cylinder connection can't be inadvertently switched with the lower cylinder connection. However, the pump motor T-fitting connections could easily be reversed.
