Convertible top motor

I just bought a 93 cutlass convertible with lots of issues. Most I've been able to fix. BUT the top is a giving me trouble when going up. It won't come up the first 1/8 of the way without a little assistance - tug upward. After that it's a little slow but comes up fine. Goes down fine. I've filled the pump, cycled the top a half dozen times and still has the same problem. The plumbing looks ok, no leaks that I can see. Does the pump/motor need to be replaced or am I missing something. I have no way of testing the fluid pressure out of the pump. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Just read a few posts and all mention the filler plug on the side. Mine has the filler on the top with a screw in plug. Different motor or just newer style?
