Are you referencing the pin used to latch (lock/unlock) the convertible top to each side at the top of the front windshield?

Convertible Header Guide Pin

I've disassembled several convertible front headers and the guide pins were attached with a square nut inside the header frame - see attached pic.

70convert:
The guide pin is mounted to the bottom of the header on the LH side. On '71-'72 A-body cars I've only ever seen one guide pin and always on the LH side; although Tim's photo seems to show the pin on the RH side - see post #4 above. Maybe it's a '70 thing (I've never owned a '70 car). The latching hooks grab onto the metal receivers mounted at the inside corners of the windshield.

Rodney

The guide pin fits into this hole on the LH side of the windshield header.

The latches hook into the bottom of these metal receivers.
