Bucket seat removal

Hello my friends,

1970 Cutlass S - bucket seats with console.

i need to remove the rear seats to install a new luggage shelf. I am 6'-2", 230 lb (not my hockey playing weight... lol) and need to remove the front two bucket seats to give my belly some room. Also I want to do some vent work under the dash... and need the room.

Question 1: do the studs in the floor stay when I remove the top nut of the bucket seat mounts?
Question 2: Is there any tips I should know doing this - like the seat belts need to be removed first?
Question 3: Any tips I should know removing the back seats or installing the new luggage shelf?

Thank you - you experts have help me so much restoring this gem!

Bill

Yes the studs are mounted to the floor. The nuts come off. That's it.

I don't believe you need to remove the seat belts.

Rear seat you push in on the seat bottom. Both sides. Back of the seat is bolted in. The bolts are accessable once the bottom is removed. Remove those bolts and it slides up. There are two slots that the back slides into.

Seat belts can stay.

One thing I found is it's better to remove the front two seat track fasteners, then slide the seat to remove the tension on the spring. Then when rear fasteners are removed the seat track doesn't try to retract on you.
