70-72 Cutlass/442 radiators

Does anyone know when/if the angled fill spouts came into play with regards to 70-72 Cutlass. Did Harrison tanks ever come this way at all?

Thanks,
Dave

I have always been under the understanding that the horizontal fill cap radiators were correct for '70's and the angled filler cap was correct for the later examples. I''m sure that either would function the same with enough professional engineering though..

The second part of your question, yes Harrison tanks came both with the flat and angled fill openings. Here's an example of each, both factory GM radiators. John

I do not know if this is 100% correct so....

70-72 non 4 core radiators had a non angled fill neck.
70 4 core radiators had a non angled fill neck.
I do not have rock solid proof but, I think early 71 4 core radiators had a non angled fill neck like the 70.
Later 71 and 72 4 core radiators had the fill neck that was angled.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Do you have a question about a specific radiator/year?

Dave,

I have not verified that the 72 3 cores have non angled fill necks. I have only verified 3 core radiators from a 70 and 71. I would definitely double check before purchasing a radiator. I do not want to steer you wrong. Did a little looking tonight and between the assembly manual, chassis manual and inspectors guide for 72, they do not list the same radiator codes...really confusing.

Any idea what the radiator (OG) in the top picture come out of? I noticed it has an AA passenger side tank. The CE radiator that I think Dave needs also has AA tanks. Also noticed that the OG has an angle fill neck and looks like a 3 core. The picture I have of the CE radiator does not show the fill neck. Any info may help.

Just as an observation, it appears when they angled the tank they made the trans coolers smaller. It is really noticeable in the pictures above. I wonder why they did this. Ideas?

Hi Don
Sorry, I've not been online as much the last few weeks. I don't remember what I pulled the OG radiator from. I don't know how many times I told myself I'd remember what this or that came off of... only to draw a blank when I look at it later The OG radiator has a 2 row core in it, but the tanks are the same size as the 3 row. Its for sale if Dave's interested. I have many of the radiators listed in the following thread. I can ship the whole thing or cut out the core and just ship the tanks if the buyer wants to save on shipping.
