70 442 Wheel Recommendation

A friend is looking for recommendations on Coker SS1 (all chrome) wheel size for 70 442:

14" x 6" 4" backspace or-

14" x 7" 4.375" backspace or

15" x 7" 4.375" backspace

thanks,

Dave

No on the 14x6.

The choice would be between 14" for tire / wheel originality or 15" for larger tire selection.

14" tires are becoming scarce these days and that size wheel may prohibit a disc brake upgrade if one is contemplated in the future

another option is 15x8 wheels (4.5" BS), which would facilitate a wider tire width range - for example, I run 15x8 Torq Thrusts with 245-60-R15 BFG Radial T/A's all around on my '72- reasonably wide footprint and no clearance issues.

the only potential downside to a size upgrade is the likely need for a speedometer gear set swap to correct for the tire size change. but in my opinion worth it for the increase in affordable tire availability.

While that is an option, 15x8 wheels are are not mandatory for that. I run 245-60-15s on factory 15x7 SSIII wheels, and in the past used 245-60-14s on the original 14x7 SSII wheels.
